More about the Discussion Series
In 1963 Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. was jailed in Birmingham for leading peaceful protests. While in solitary confinement, he responded to Alabama clergymen who had written him a letter calling his nonviolent, direct-action methods “unwise and untimely” and suggested more restraint and waiting for more peaceful means.
King’s response, “Letter from a Birmingham Jail,” became one of the most important documents of the civil rights era.
In these discussions, a group works through both letters, provide a series of reflections and opportunities for small group dialogue and Q&A.
