August 18, 1975 was the day on which a group of women religious identified themselves by communally choosing a name that would single out their new community – the Sisters of the Living Word. Further, as a new religious community, they recognized the Ordinary of the Archdiocese of Chicago as the Episcopal Sponsor on August 18. During the 1995 Community Assembly, August 18, 1975 was established unanimously as the founding date of the Sisters of the Living Word.
